Best Tibet Overland 2006

Travelling across Tibet is enlightening, here are some shots to inspire you!

All photos copyright, Jamie McGuinness.

Lhasa

Lhasa is much more than the Potala but it is iconic, and stupendous.

A Potala sunrise from the Hotel Himalaya - Jamie

I love stitching panoramas; the circles are fountains - Jamie

Shigatse

Again, Shigatse is more than the Tashi Lumpo Monastery and seat of the Panchen Lama, but it is photogenic!

Offerings made from butter and tsampa (cooked barley flour) - Jamie

The rich colours - Jamie

Inside is the 10th Panchen Lama's stupa (memorial), but as with most gompas (temples)
there is no photography inside, unless you pay a special fee - Jamie

Shegar

I love having a rest day at Sheger, as we do with most expeditions, and this gives us a chance to visit the spectacular fort.
Our overland trips normally go via picturesque Gyantse so don't have a day at Shegar.

There is a monastery to the right, and above is the ruins of the fort - Jamie

These are the autumn colours, in spring it is more drab - Jamie

And from the top... - Jamie

One of my favourite portraits taken while our drivers stopped for a cigarette break too - Jamie
